   When comparing Driving Instructors remember to ask their grade, pass rates for at least last 20 tests, how long they have been teaching and average number of hours ( not lessons ) their pupils normally take. Ask what car they use and if you have to do 2 hour lessons. The cheapest hourly price is nearly always the most expensive in the end.

Do I need to pass my Theory Test before starting lessons ?

No absolutly not, in fact it is much better to start your lessons and you will start to learn hazard perception as part of your driving lessons.  Also I will enroll you with my partner site Theory Test pro.

How many lessons will I need ?

Every individual is different, according to the DSA the average pupil requires 45 hours of professional tuition plus 20 hours practice with friends or family. However it is not always as many as this. I will structure your lessons  to meet your needs. You will be taught driving as a life skill,  not just learning test routes to scrape through your test.

Do you provide help with the theory test ?

Yes, unlike many Driving Schools I offer a complete learning program in association with Theory Test pro, once you start your practical lessons with me I will enroll you. This is included with your lesson price.

Do you do crash courses ?

I prefer to call them intensive courses, yes but subject to availability and over about 3 months which is the average waiting time for a test in Inverurie. Remember you must pass your theory test before you can book a practical test. There really is no realistic way of doing it quicker in this area.

Are you fully qualified and expierenced at teaching learner drivers ?

Yes I have been qualified since 1999 and have taught in the Inverurie area ever since. I am a grade 5 instructor registered with the DSA.

The practical car driving test lasts for approximately 40 minutes and will involve a section on independent driving. This is explained in the video below.

Peter Clark is a great driving instructor due to his patience and
humour, its always nice to feel relaxed when learning to drive as it
can be scary. I always enjoyed my lessons with him (after I mastered
roundabouts & reversing at last haha) and in the end I passed! Also
his car is an ace colour and I would definitely recommend him :]

I was really enjoying lessons with Peter Clark because it was so lot
of fun and hard work together. I was often wondering about his
patience and way he could explain things about driving and cooping
with situations on the road that I thought I will never understand. I
would also recommend him for people who wants to learn to drive and
who’s native language is not English, because it is very important to
learn with supportive instructor who will always explain everything in
simple way. All in all I did enjoy my lessons and I am glad that I
passed my test Thank You very much!!!

I have just recently passed my test with Peter with no faults! This
is a great demonstration of his teaching quality. Peter is very
patient and friendly and explains things in a manner understandable to
anyone. Always prompt and never cancelled a lesson (unless the weather
dictated otherwise). He knew before I did when I was ready to move on
to knew things, can read people and their abilities well. He will not
move you on to new manoeuvres etc unless he knows you are ready to
cope with it (even if you don’t feel or believe it yourself). After a
long while, I began to enjoy driving and looked forward to having a
lesson with Peter. The Fiesta is a great car to drive! I would
recommend Peter to anyone and I am glad I listened to my friend’s
recommendation of Peter.

Pass Plus is an established training course aimed at new drivers and was designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.

Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years after passing their test, due to lack of driving experience. Pass Plus is not a driving test but a 6 hour course (minimum) that will build on your current skills and knowledge. It will teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, and help you become a more confident driver.

A Pass Plus course can be taken at any time, but it’s ideally taken in the first year after passing your driving test.

Pass Plus consists of six modules about driving in different conditions:

Driving around a town

The first module has two parts. It begins with an introduction to Pass Plus, explaining the course aims and the skills and knowledge to be covered.

The second part is a practical session covering the different features of driving in a town, such as complex junctions and public transport.

You’ll focus on:

• observation, judgement and awareness
• eye contact
• consideration for vulnerable road users
• showing caution
• keeping space around your car

All weather driving

This module will be covered as much as possible in a practical session. You’ll focus on correct speed, safe stopping distances, plus seeing and being seen in:

• rain
• sleet, snow and ice
• mist and fog
• bright sunshine

You’ll also look at skidding, and:

• what causes skids
• how to prevent skids
• correcting slow-speed skids
• braking on poor surfaces
• aquaplaning

Driving in the countryside

This module looks at the main differences between town and country driving:

• observing the road ahead
• making progress safely
• bends, hills, uneven roads and dead ground
• keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
• safe overtaking

It focuses especially on being aware and showing consideration for:

• pedestrians, horse riders and animals in the road
• farm entrances
• slow moving vehicles

It also covers the correct use of a horn, coping with mud and debris on the road and how to use passing places.

Driving at night

This covers the important parts of driving at night, dawn and dusk. You’ll learn about:

• the importance of using headlights correctly
• adjusting to the dark
• judging speed and distance
• the correct use of lights and keeping them clean
• dealing with dazzle
• hard-to-see road users
• parking issues

Driving on dual carriageways

Dual carriageways are high speed roads where the two carriageways are separated by a central reservation. You will need to have particular skills, including:

• effective observation, using your mirrors and checking blind spots
• judgement and planning ahead
• separation distances
• joining and leaving a dual carriageway
• overtaking and lane discipline
• the correct use of speed

Driving on motorways

This should be a practical session if possible. If there is no motorway nearby, it will be covered in a theory session.You should drive on a motorway as soon as you can afterwards so you can put the theory into practice.

The topics covered include:

• journey planning
• joining and leaving a motorway, and using slip roads
• safe speeds in different circumstances
• effective observation
• signs, signals and markings
• overtaking and lane discipline
• courtesy to other road users
• motorway fatigue
• breakdown proceduresuse of lights, including hazard warning lights
• debris on the carriageway
• crosswinds

Cancellations/changes to lessons.

 

Whenever possible please give 24 hours notice. I do understand that occasionally emergencies do occur and its not possible to do so. Unlike most instructors I won’t charge for the lesson (unless you don’t tell me and I arrive for your lesson) however if you regularly cancel your lessons i may ask you to find another instructor. Also you are unlikely to be ready for your test.

 You should also take this into account when choosing a driving instructor, almost all will charge a full lesson fee for cancelling within 24-48 hours so a small saving of a few pounds becomes much more costly when you can’t manage your lesson and you have to pay.
